Rainwater Harvesting

Diagram showing rainwater harvesting

Rainwater – provided free and collected from roofs, can be a valuable source of water for residential or commercial purposes. Rainwater harvesting can provide quality water, reducing reliance on complex and costly distribution systems, or can be an alternative to poor quality groundwater.

The Pioneer Galaxy® tank provides an excellent water storage solution for all rainwater harvesting applications.

The Pioneer Galaxy® tanks can cater for storage requirements between:

  • 12,000 litres to 250,000 litres for residential/rural use
  • 12,000 litres to 2.6 million litres for commercial applications

The Pioneer range of water tanks is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, strong and durable and yet cost-effective to fit any project.

Our tanks are finished in either ZINCALUME® steel or a range of COLORBOND® steel colours.

Benefits of a Pioneer water tank include our exclusive 5-layer Aqualiner® which is certified to Australian, American and British standards for contact with potable water, and our commercial grade liner, the Industratex®, also certified to Australian and American Standards, ensures we are providing one of the best quality products for contact with stored water.

How much rainwater can I collect?

Water consumption can vary widely due to different factors such as water usage for washing or bathing. This calculator will help you gauge how much water you can collect off your roof, and is not an indication of how much water you will use.

Annual Rainwater Volume Calculator

Annual Rainfall (in mm) x Roof area available for rainwater collection (in m2) = Litres collected annually.

Example: 1mm x 1m2 = 1 litre

Please note that this is a rough guide only and does not take into account the amount of water used. For a more accurate estimate, please contact us via email, or call on 1800 999 599 in Australia or +61 8 9274 4577 for international customers.

Where tank water is to be used for potable applications, Pioneer Water Tanks strongly recommends consumers take advice from, and comply with, the requirements of their state building and/or health authorities.

In ALL situations where rainwater is used for drinking purposes - good catchment (roofing materials, flashings, guttering and tank maintenance is extremely important. The use of a properly maintained first-flush diverter will also ensure the quality of the water going into a water tank. Additionally, a properly installed and maintained water filter will further ensure the water quality from the tank.

If a roof is used as a water catchment for drinking, we recommend that roofing/re-roofing works be carried out in accordance with relevant state or local government standards.
